- In the late sixties/early seventies work in the private sector: Consultant/senior consultant, Economist Intelligence Unit (London and Brussels) PR Executive and Head of Press Service, J.Walter Thompson (Frankfurt/Main) (advertising agency)

- Since 1975 various functions in the European Commission - Directorate-General V, "Employment, Industrial Relations and Social Affairs", in particular:

1975 - 1980 : Vocational guidance and vocational training
1980 - 1983 : Labour market studies, co-operative sector
1983 - 1996 : Various activities in the field of employment policy, e.g. responsible for pioneering and promoting Commission activities in the field of local development
Currently, responsible for promoting employment in the environment, culture, tourism, and health sectors.
